Seeking a Deeper Relationship with God: Inspired by "Sufficient" by Wes Harris

This morning, while on my walk, I listened to "Sufficient" by Wes Harris.  (It's a hip-hop song) (‎sufficient. (Feat. Jeremiah Paltan) - Song by Wes Harris - Apple Music) The song’s chorus, "If I got Elohim, I’m okay," struck a chord with me. It made me reflect on my often-ungrateful attitude towards God, always wanting more despite His countless blessings.

I used to think that just making it into heaven would be enough, but as I've grown in my faith, I now yearn for a deeper connection with God. I want to walk in heaven holding His hand, like Abraham, who was called God's friend. Tasha Cobbs-Leonard’s song "He Knows My Name" (‎You Know My Name (Live) - Song by Tasha Cobbs Leonard - Apple Music) expresses this desire beautifully—I want to be known by Him.

Our hearts should cry out, like Moses, "Show me Your glory" (Exodus 33:18). Moses wanted to know God more intimately, and God honored his request (Exodus 33:19–23, 34:5-7). Psalm 103:7 tells us that "He made known His ways to Moses," whereas the children of Israel only knew His acts. They sought what they could get from God, not a relationship with Him. We often start our faith journey the same way, seeking blessings and solutions to our problems.

As I’ve deepened my walk with Jesus, I’ve come to understand Psalm 34:8: "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him." Experiencing His mercy, grace, and love has shown me that the world has nothing to offer. I now hunger and thirst for righteousness, striving to have a heart after God, like King David.

It’s not about perfection but about living in God’s grace and mercy and extending that to others. It’s our relationship with Him that transforms us. The Israelites had the law but lacked the relationship. Once you connect with God, you no longer desire to sin.

We must make Jesus our first love again. It's not enough to receive blessings from Him; our desires should align with His will, cultivated through a relationship with Him. Let’s be like Moses and ask to see His glory.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. (Matt 6:33)
